Meet Our Pastor

Pastor Nathan Kilian was born in Phoenix, Arizona to Rev. Kenneth and Nancy Kilian, a Lutheran Pastor and Lutheran School Teacher. In 1976, his family moved to Orange, California. His father became the Director of Development for Lutheran Bible Translators.

Pastor Nathan Kilian attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Elementary School in Orange and graduated from Lutheran High School in Orange. Pastor Kilian then received his AA degree from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. In 1990, his father passed away. That year, he transferred to Concordia University in Irvine, California, and graduated in 1992. He entered the Education program, which he completed in 1993.

In 1994, Pastor Kilian was called as a teacher (Minister of Religion) to Pilgrim Lutheran School in Santa Monica. He taught at Pilgrim for three years before going to seminary, an ambition he had always had. After four years at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri, Pastor Kilian was again called back to Pilgrim as Pastor to replace the retiring Rev. Dr. Ardon Albrecht. He has been here at Pilgrim Lutheran Church as the sole Pastor of Pilgrim and has enjoyed every bit of his call.
